ABOUT ANGIE WILKINSON

Sport and fitness have been a part of my life from as early as I can remember. Born and raised in Manchester, the eldest of four children, I ran my first half marathon aged 13 around a hilly course in the countryside. I danced, was a county swimmer, a cross country runner and excelled at all sports at school, making the netball, hockey and badminton team. After school I played tennis and basketball for Glossop Ladies, age 14 and threw Javelin for Stretford Athletics.

In my teens, I discovered running and realized sport helped me forget my complicated childhood. Family relocation and the loss of a beloved family pet, life took a turn for the worse, and I relied on recreational drugs and alcohol to help me through the dark teenage years. Looking back this was my first experience of depression.

My oldest child was born soon after my 21st birthday and I had gained three stone during the pregnancy. I embraced motherhood and missed the regime of sport and fitness I had been used to all my life, so I set myself a huge task to reclaim back my health and fitness.

I had lost the pregnancy weight, and newly engaged, I was expecting my second child. I continued to run during and post-pregnancy and found that running outside helped me to cope with the mild post-natal depression. However, my addictions kicked in once more, after all these years, and I was alcohol dependent once more. I spent six years trapped in a controlling and violent relationship. 

I have battled bulimia nervosa, anorexia, and addiction. I was in and out of women refuges taking my children with me, until they went to live with their grandparents, for stability during this difficult phase in my life. Experiencing personal tragedy witnessing the murder of my new fiance, life spiraled out of control. 

A near death experience finally enabled me to press the reset button and find an inner purpose, to help others who have been broken by their life experiences. I trained as a Personal Fitness Instructor in 2006. Gained my sport & science BSC in 2013. And have been training clients since 2007.
